On September 11, 2020, our biomed class got to listen to a guest speaker on electrical and general cardiology and the science behind defibrillators and pacemakers.Arrhythmia is a disorder of heart rhythm. Pacemakers are for the slow category with dizziness, fatigue, and passing out. A pacemaker is inserted by making a pocket in the skin (usually to the left side) of the chest muscles to the large blood vessel puncturing the wall. A wire is placed into the vein to the heart. A catheter is pushed to the heart until leads are in position. Finally, the leads are connected to the pacemaker. Defibrillators can fix fast rhythms to pace it out.
