IV Administration

Allie Dixon, a year one ems, came to our bimed class to teach iv administration. The very first is to keep you and the patient safe by putting your gloves on. The needle gauge ranges from the largest of 14 gauge to the smallest of 24 gauge. We used 22g in class. A pulsating feeling means it is an artery. Materials one would need to perform such task would be the needle, saline, serenge, fluid, and an administration kit. We palpate the vein after placing the tourniquet. In order to do all this, we also have to clean the skin with an wipe in small to large circular motions. The needle goes at a 45 degree angle. The IV needle goes into the arm but comes out only leaving the catheter in the skin.
