For our first week of the second semester, we only had three days (one of which I was not there) in the week. We still used our time wisely and had assignments that must be completed by the end of the week.
On Thursday, we did an interesting, but relaxing, skills lab. Mrs. McCleery immersed us in beginner art therapy to calm us for the new semester. We are getting to learn more holistic forms of medicine and that is why we started with art therapy. We watched a series of youtube views that showed us different techniques art therapy uses. The first video showed us how to mindlessly doodle with different colored pens/markers and how it soothes our mind. The second video was how you could control your breathing my drawing your breathing pattern. The last video was more involved and required us to clothes our eyes and draw a continuous doodle while relaxing different parts of our body and breathing. Once we opened our eyes, we got to design different parts of our doodle. Overall, I enjoyed the relaxing end to my busy day by getting to doodle in class.
We had other assignments like a discussion post (first one since we finished our paper) and a new assigned infographic that we are completing next week. Our discussion post was research gathered about Big Data. I did not have any prior knowledge (other than assumption/context clues) on what big data would be. Big Data is lingo that is used to describe very big quantities of data that can not normally be managed and sorted. This type of data cannot be seen without intense organization with both structured and unstructured data. Many positive things come out of the use of Big Data. When organizing information this way, a person can increase development of products, increase efficiency of operations, and make the best decision for the business. It can show where things went wrong and find the root of the failure, which will benefit the future. Abnormalities can be spotted quicker than a singular human could catch. Other interesting things that it can bring are the findings of fake behavior, risk portfolio revamp quickly, and fast reactions to change. While there are many reasons why Big Data would be wanted for use, there are always downsides to new technology. Those limitations include storage of extremely large amounts, perfect security, quality issues of the data, and overall increase of the price of maintenance. The diverse use of Big Data is shocking, as it shows that it is incorporated throughout medicine, environmental protection, agriculture, and even gambling. The uses are far and wide, and that shows in the adaptation of it into different areas of business.
I also began my infographic on SARS and what a patient can expect to fight it off and other important information. While I am not finished, it will be done by Tuesday.
