I presented a project on Phobias for the weeks presentation of different psychological disorders. I had to research and create a Google Slides. Phobias can range from severe to mild and affect over 19 million americans. Phobias can be triggered early in childhood, later in life, or after a traumatic event happened. Usually they conform this irrational thought around a memory which could be an activity, situation, object, etc. Panic attacks, feeling like you are in danger, avoiding situations, etc are common things people with phobias do. For example, turbulence can ignite a fear of flying or a dog attack and start an irrational fear of all dogs. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a studied treatment that slowly exposes a patient to their phobias. They could also seek counselling or other meditation/breathing techniques. After our presentations, we received feedback on what we can improve on for our actual presentations in the spring. I learned about the importance of making sure all the aligning headings are of the same boldness, font, etc. Also, less is more in the case of slides because we do not want the audience to read from our slides. We have to make sure all the words we use, we can say and have knowledge about. Our backgrounds should flow with the topics and not be distracting. Fonts and colors of the words should be easy to read considering people with eye problems. There are many small details that actually take the presentation to a larger more professional level. My other classmates had dementia, OCD, PTSD, Bipolar disorder, autism, behavior disorders, etc. They received some of the information above about how to improve presentations and slides.

Our skills lab this week was learning about waxes on our produce. If you look at an apple or an orange from a super market, it is vastly more shiny compared to one that is freshly picked and washed. The ones from the market that covered in a wax seal that prevents dehydration of the fruit and different fungi problems. This expand shelf-life. We learned about the different types like shellac or bees-wax and which ones are approved in different countries. After the presentation, we mixed baking soda, water, and vinegar that is all boiled. We dipped apples from the market into the boiling solution and watched how the wax is removed. What is left is opaque white and can be scraped off. It is a lot more than you would think!
